Anton Freiherr von Pantz (born October 22, 1864 in Eibiswald , † August 31, 1945 in Vienna , until 1917 Anton Reichsritter von Pantz , from 1919 Anton Pantz ) was an Austrian civil servant, heraldist and genealogist.

Life

Pantz graduated from the Theresianum in Vienna and studied law. In 1889 he received his doctorate from the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna to Dr. iur. As a civil servant, he was initially active in the Carinthian regional administration and from 1897 in the kk agriculture ministry. In 1910 he was appointed section head in this ministry . From 1909 he also acted as an honorary lecturer at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences . During the First World War, Pantz was particularly concerned with issues relating to the food industry. In 1917 he was raised to the baron status - a rare honor for a civil servant who was still active.

After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Pantz remained in the civil service, was a close employee of the Agriculture Minister Josef Stöckler and was in discussion as his successor in a possible cabinet of officials. Even before the First World War, Pantz dealt intensively with questions of land reform and played a key role in the enactment of the resettlement law in 1919.

In 1922 he retired and was then until 1927 (as the predecessor of Engelbert Dollfuss ) director of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture and until 1938 chairman of the insurance company for employees in agriculture and forestry.

In addition to his work in the public service, Pantz dealt with questions of genealogy and heraldry , especially in his Styrian homeland, and published some works in this regard. From 1925 to 1938 he was President of the Heraldic-Genealogical Society Adler .

His estate is in the Styrian State Archives .

Pantz's younger brother was the politician Ferdinand von Pantz .
