John Galayda

John Nicolas Galayda (* 1948 ) is an American physicist .

Galayda received a BS from Lehigh University in 1970 and a PhD in physics from Rutgers University in 1977 . From 1977 to 1990 he worked at the Brookhaven National Laboratory . From 1990 to 1999 he was director at SLAC for the Advanced Photon Source Accelerator Systems Division. He is currently the director of the Linac Coherent Light Source II project at SLAC.

In 2013 Galayda received the Robert R. Wilson Prize for his leadership role in the Linac Coherent Light Source , as well as contributions to the Advanced Photon Source and the National Synchrotron Light Source .
