John H. Chapman Space Center

Coordinates: 45 ° 31 '12 "  N , 73 ° 23' 36"  W Theheadquarters of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) are locatedin the John H. Chapman Space Center in Longueuil , Québec , Canada . The site borders directly on Saint-Hubert Airport . The John H. Chapman Space Center opened in 1992. The facility was named after John H. Chapman , a Canadian space pioneer who significantly influenced Canadian space travel when it was founded.

Facilities

In addition to the administration of the agency and the offices of the Canadian astronauts, there are other facilities at this location. This system has:

  • an anechoic / anechoic room in which the antennas of satellites are checked,
  • a development department for prototypes that are developed there and tested for functionality, such as B. Canadarm 1 and 2 , which are used on the Space Shuttle and the ISS, respectively,

  • a flight control center (comparable to that in Houston, USA or in Moscow, Russia).
