John Henry Cornell
John Henry Cornell (born May 8, 1828 in New York City , † March 1, 1894 ibid) was an American organist , composer and textbook author.
Life
Cornell received his education in New York and also studied in England and Germany. From 1848 he was organist at St. John's Chapel in his hometown, from 1868 at St. Paul's Chapel and from 1877 at Brick Church.
In addition to songs, he composed works for church music: anthems , services and psalms . He also emerged as the editor of chorale books (e.g. The Lord is in his holy temple , 1881), author of textbooks and translator of writings on music from German.
