The Back Horn is a Japanese rock band founded in 1998 whose music style is based on J-Rock .

Band history

The band was formed around April 1998 when all of the founding members came to Tokyo from rural areas for various reasons . First they called themselves Gyorai ( 魚雷 , dt. "Torpedo"), then the name was changed to The Back Horn .

After their premiere at the Fuji Rock Festival in 1999, they released the mini-album Doko e Iku on the record label Kando Records. Seven months later, they released their first full-length album: Yomigaeru Hi . They then signed a contract with the Speedstar Records label . Despite having a contract, they often referred to themselves as an indie band . At that time, Hirabayashi decided to leave the band.

After releasing their first album on Speedstar Records, Ningen Program , the band found a new bass player in Okamine Kohshu . However, he did not want to become a member immediately. However, he was included in the recording of the following album Shinzo Orchestra and on the tour the band announced that he was from now on a full member.

As the band grew in popularity, they got requests to record the music for two films, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Bright Future and Kazuaki Kiriya's Casshern . In the meantime, they recorded and released the album Ikiru Sainō .

After a few tours, an appearance at the Rock In Japan Festival, a few singles and their first live DVD , the band's fifth album, Headphone Children , which is often referred to as a concept album , was released. The song Kiseki from this album was used in the horror film Zoo . After the following tour, the live album Ubugoe Chainsaw was released. Two months later, the group performed for the first time in Europe, at a festival in Barcelona .

The band then released a couple of singles and gave a couple of shows including an acoustic tour with Yamada and Suganami only, playing the streets of Japan with no entry fees. In April 2006, her sixth album Taiyō no Naka no Seikatsu came out on the market.
