John Hughes ( Irish Seán Ó hAodha ) (born June 23, 1950 ) is an Irish musician and talent manager , who is best known for his work at The Corrs .

Career

Early career

Hughes began his career in the 1960s as a singer and guitarist for Dublin-based band Ned Spoon. After this disbanded in 1972, he and his brother Willie formed the hippie duo Highway and later the new wave band Minor Detail in the 1980s . This became the first Irish band to sign a record deal with an American label, but they only produced one album. It was produced by Bill Whelan , the music producer for Riverdance - The Show .

Discovery of The Corrs

In 1991 he formed the band Hughes Version with Jim Corr on keyboards . He also currently worked as a musical coordinator for the film The Commitments . Jim Corr decided to go to the music casting for the film with his three sisters, which Hughes knew nothing about. Casting director Ros Hubbard, who owned the Corr siblings, eventually convinced Hughes to run the band, even though he had no experience in the field. To this day he is the manager of The Corrs .

Wild Ocean

After Hughes worked for the Corrs, he neglected his own music. In 1999, however, he decided to write and record his own material again. The result was the album Wild Ocean , which was released in 2004 under the label 14th Floor Records / Warner Records. Allegedly, the title of the album was suggested by Andrea Corr .

The Corrs , The Chieftains and the newcomer Tara Blaise also work on this album . Hughes then offered Tara Blaise, who had co-written some of Wild Ocean's songs , a recording contract with his label Spokes Records and wrote songs for her debut album, Dancing On Tables Barefoot .

The Mandela Suite

In 2009 Hughes released his EP The Mandela Suite . This work is a further development of Wild Ocean . It consists of a song cycle that begins with Nelson Mandela reciting his own homage to the music.
