John Markoff

John Markoff (born October 24, 1949 in Oakland , California ) is an American journalist who mainly deals with the topics of technology and the Internet in his articles . Markoff became known in the 1990s for his coverage of the hacker Kevin Mitnick in the New York Times .

Life

Markoff grew up in Palo Alto . He graduated from Whitman College , Walla Walla , Washington, in 1971 and received his Masters from the University of Oregon in 1976 .

He worked as a freelance journalist for various publications, such as B. "The Nation", "Mother Jones" and "Saturday Review". In 1981 he became a member of the editorial board of InfoWorld magazine . In 1984 he became editor of Byte Magazine, which he left in 1985 to write for the business section of the San Francisco Examiner . Here his main topic was the coverage of the Silicon Valley .

Markoff has lived in New York since 1988 and writes for the business section of the New York Times.
