John Mercer Langston House
The John Mercer Langston House is a historic house in Oberlin and is located in Lorain County in the US state of Ohio , in the United States . Built in 1855 and located at 207 East College Street , the house is now privately owned.
From 1856 to 1867, the shingle building was the home of the black lawyer and politician John Mercer Langston , one of the most famous and influential civil rights activists of the 19th century.
The walls of the single-family house, which is furnished in a neo-Gothic design, are made of brick and partly wood paneling .
The John Mercer Langston House was granted National Historic Landmark status on May 15, 1975 . and listed as a building on the National Register of Historic Places .
