John Mogg, Baron Mogg

John Frederick Mogg, Baron Mogg , KCMG (born October 5, 1943 in Birmingham ) is a British civil servant, manager and politician who has been a life peer member of the House of Lords since 2008 .

Life

Administrative Officer and Director General of the European Commission

After attending school and studying, Mogg worked for Rediffusion Ltd from 1965 to 1974, and subsequently represented the Office of Fair Trading , a non-governmental agency established by the Fair Trading Act 1973 to promote consumer protection and competition law .

In 1976 Mogg moved to the government service as an administrative officer and was initially an employee of the Ministry of Commerce until 1979 and then from 1979 to 1982 First Secretary of the Permanent Mission to the European Community . After completing this activity, he began his work in the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 1982, where he was assistant secretary in the Department of Minerals and Metals and, from 1985 to 1986, he was the chief private secretary of the Minister of State. He then acted as Undersecretary and Head of the Department for European Policy from 1986 to 1987, and most recently between 1987 and 1989 as Undersecretary and Head of the Department for the Market of Industrial Materials in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

After a subsequent position as Deputy Head of the European Secretariat in the Cabinet Office , Mogg moved to the European Commission in 1990 , where he was first Deputy Director General of the Directorate General for Industry and the Internal Market before he was Head of the Directorate General for the Internal Market between 1993 and 2002.

Energy manager and member of the House of Lords

After completing his work at the European Commission, he became a member of the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets in 2003 and has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of this authority since 2003. In addition, Mogg, who was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 2003 and from then on bore the suffix "Sir", was Chairman of the European Regulatory Group for Electricity and Gas, President of the Council of European Energy Regulators and from 2005 to 2011 Chairman of the regulatory body of the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators.

In addition, Mogg, who was visiting professor at the University of Parma between 2006 and 2010 , has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University of Brighton since 2006 .

By a letters patent dated May 28, 2008, John Mogg was raised to life peer status as Baron Mogg , of Queen's Park in the County of East Sussex. Shortly thereafter, on June 3, 2008, he was introduced as a member of the House of Lords . In the upper house he belongs to the Crossbencher faction .

Since 2010 Lord Mogg has also been chairman of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators and also acts as special advisor to the President of the European Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market and as trustee of the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra.
