John Ward Parsons (born February 11, 1971 ) is an American murderer and prison escape. He has served a life sentence for the murder of a police officer since 2006 and escaped from an Ohio prison for 83 days .

Criminal offenses

John Parsons shot dead police officer Larry Cox in a robbery on April 21, 2005 and was arrested on May 1, 2005. His criminal record and charges included theft, falsification of evidence, violation of the gun law, particularly aggravated robbery and murder. While awaiting trial, he escaped from Ross County Jail on July 29, 2006 . He had made a rope ladder out of sheets and made four snap-together paper rods with which he could attach the rope ladder to the wall in the yard. Over the rope ladder and through a spiked ribbon roll he reached the prison roof, from where he jumped six meters into the depth and escaped. He broke his foot jumping off the wall.

His escape was only noticed an hour later. Despite extensive searches with airplanes, helicopters and dog squadrons, he disappeared in the dense forest areas around Chillicothe . On September 30, 2006, it was listed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives and was broadcast three times on America's Most Wanted television series. The reward for clues leading to his arrest was increased to $ 125,000. During a search of his cell, the officers also discovered a loose block of wall.

It was only on October 19, 2006, after a hunter pointed out that he was arrested at a small hut near the city limits of Chillicothe. On December 8, 2006, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with no prospect of early release. His escape became an episode of Prison Breaks: The Real Stories Processed.
