John R. Schindler

John R. Schindler is an American historian , author , security advisor, and former intelligence officer .

From 1996 to 2004 Schindler worked for the NSA , among other things as an intelligence analyst. He worked closely with other government agencies on counter-espionage issues in Eastern Europe and the Middle East . From 2005 to 2014 he was a professor of national security affairs at Naval War College . In 2014, after the Naval War College was informed of allegations that he was sending pictures of his penis with sexually explicit text, he was given leave of absence.

Schindler holds a BA and MA from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. from McMaster University . He wrote a column on security issues for the New York Observer, which was closed in 2016 .
