John Robert Hall , FRSA (born March 13, 1949 in London ) is an English priest and former dean of Westminster .

He grew up in South London and lived in Kenya for a short time . He studied theology at St Dunstan's College, Catford, and Durham University (St Chad's College) and taught at a high school in Hull for two years. He completed his education at Cuddesdon Theological College.

It was founded in 1975 to priests ordained and served successively in communities in Kennington (1975 to 1978), Wimbledon (1978 until 1984) and Streatham in the diocese of Southwark (1984 to 1992). He was a member of the General Synod of the Church of England from 1984 to 1992. From 1992 to 1998 he was Diocesan Director of Education and from 1994 to 1998 resident Canon in Blackburn.

From 1998 to 2006 he was general secretary of the National Society for the Advancement of Religious Education and from 1998 to 2002 general secretary of the board of directors for educational matters of the Church of England. He served as Chief Education Officer of the Church of England from 2002 to 2006. He was an honorary pastor of South Norwood St. Alban, Southwark from 2003 to 2006.

On September 19, 2006, Queen Elizabeth II announced that John Robert Hall BA FRSA has been appointed 38th Dean of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter in Westminster following the resignation of Rev. (Arthur) Wesley Carr KCVO MA PhD. He was inducted into office on December 2, 2006 and ran until November 1, 2019.

Canon Hall has written extensively on educational issues and was instrumental in preparing and following up the Dearing Report , which has resulted in a significant expansion of church secondary schools in the UK. He had been governor of ten schools, two universities and a member of two local educational institutions at different times .

As Dean of Westminster , he chairs the Presidium of Westminster School .

He is a member of the Royal Society of Arts and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Roehampton University in 2007 .

The unmarried Hall's personal interests lie in music and political history.
