successes
John Scott took part in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne with Rolly Tasker in the Sharpie boat class . Although they were initially classified in first place overall after the last race, the top-placed Australians were disqualified for the last race after a protest by the French crew. The two New Zealanders Jack Cropp and Peter Mander were tied on points with Scott and Tasker, but had won three of the seven races, whereas the Australians only had two wins. Due to the larger number of races won, Mander and Cropp received the gold medal, while Scott and Tasker received silver.
