John Slater is a former British figure skater who started out in ice dancing .
His ice dance partner was Joan Dewhirst . With her he was in 1952 and 1953 , at the first two world championships , in which ice dancing was in the program, runner-up behind his compatriots Jean Westwood and Lawrence Demmy .
