John Smithson (2010)

John Smithson (* before 1987) is a British film and television producer who mainly works in the field of documentary films.

Career

Smithson's film career began in 1987 on the documentary television series Rough Justice when he was responsible for two episodes as a producer. This was followed by television films such as, for example, Todesflug KAL 007 and The Affair in which he was involved in the same activity. In 2004 , Smithson received a BAFTA Award for Falling Into Void , which was named Best British Film. For the film The Last Dragon he received an Emmy nomination in 2005. Smithson received three other nominations at the BAFTA Awards for the films 9/11: The Falling Man , 127 Hours and Sherpa .

At the 2011 Academy Awards , Smithson, with Danny Boyle and Christian Colson, received a Best Picture nomination for his involvement in 127 Hours .

Smithson mainly produces documentaries or series for television. Events such as the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , Thrilla in Manila or the conclusion of Korean Air Lines flight 007 .
