John Stewart, 2nd Earl of Atholl
John Stewart, 2nd Earl of Atholl (* after 1475; † 1521 ) was a Scottish nobleman from the Stewart family .
He was a son of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl and his second wife Eleanor Sinclair. He succeeded his father as Earl of Atholl in 1512 and took part in the Battle of Flodden Field a year later , in which he allegedly fell, but did not actually die until 1521.
The Earl married Janet († 1546), daughter of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll , with whom he had the following children:
- Elizabeth Stewart, ⚭ Kenneth Mackenzie of Kintail;
- John Stewart, 3rd Earl of Atholl (1507-1542);
- Janet Stewart, ⚭ (1) around 1520 Alexander Gordon, Master of Sutherland , ⚭ (2) before 1532 Hew Kennedy of Girvanmains, ⚭ (3) before 1544 Henry Stewart, 1st Lord Methven , ⚭ (4) Patrick Ruthven, 3rd Lord Ruthven .
