John Story (Attorney)

John Story (* 1946 in Australia ) is an Australian lawyer and has been Chancellor of the University of Queensland since 2009 .

Life

John Story is the grandson of one of the most prominent Queensland State Government officials and the University of Queensland's First Vice Chancellor, John Douglas Story. After studying law at the University of Queensland, Story initially worked as a lawyer - primarily for the Australian law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth - specializing in corporate law and business law. After working as managing partner and chairman of the board of the law firm, Story left the law firm in 2006 and concentrated increasingly on the positions he had previously held on the side. These included his activities as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tabcorp and Suncorp-Metway , and as a member of the Board of Directors of the construction company CSR.

In addition to his work as a lawyer and businessman, Story has taught at the University of Queensland's TC Beirne School of Law and has been a member of the university's Senate since 2006. On February 19, 2009, John Story was appointed Chancellor of the University of Queensland and confirmed in his office in 2012.
