The third volume in the series was published on September 8, 2009 in the USA with the title "The Golden City". In the German translation, the last part is called "Traveler - Das Finale" and was published on September 20, 2010.

Details about Hawks are hardly known, all public information comes from his own statements. In an interview with the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , he explains that although he was a native American, he was by no means an Indian , which was suspected given his pseudonym. In addition, he reveals in the interview: "I am so old that I got to know the GDR in the 1970s . The fear of people of being constantly watched made a big impression on me."

He maintains contact with his publishers via a satellite phone that cannot be located . At the beginning of the English audio book version of his book, an electronically distorted voice speaks the words "This is John Twelve Hawks", and after some explanation of his motivation for writing the book: "I live outside the grid."
