John Wood the Elder (probably 1704 in Yorkshire , † 23 May 1754 in Bath ), also called Wood of Bath , was an English builder and architectural writer.

The father of John Wood the Younger is considered a representative of Palladian classicism .

Since 1724 he built the city of Bath, next to which he built several country houses. In addition, the stock exchange in Bristol (1740 to 1743) and the town hall in Liverpool (from 1748) are works by John Wood.
