Johnston Canyon is a canyon in Banff National Park in the Canadian province of Alberta . It is located on the Bow Valley Highway , Alberta Highway 1A , between Banff and Lake Louise . The canyon is formed by Johnston Creek .

The beginning of the path in the gorge is paved and easy to walk (approx. 1.1 km long) to the Lower Falls , a waterfall about ten meters high. After a further 2.7 kilometers you get to the Upper Falls , which look much more impressive and are about 30 meters high. From there, a steeper, 5.8 km long path leads to the Ink Pots , small lakes that are beautifully embedded in the landscape and from which bubbles regularly rise. The lakes have different colors.
