description

The mausoleum is located in the cemetery of Westerkirk Parish Church on the northern edge of Bentpath. It was built around 1790 based on a design by the Scottish architect Robert Adam . The classicist building has a square floor plan. Its masonry consists of gray stone blocks with polished natural stone details . The arched portal on the south side is made with an ornamented keystone . Paired Doric columns flank the portal. They wear a bucranial frieze with a triangular gable at the end . A frieze is continued along the facade below the cornice . The remaining facades are designed with arched niches on the central projections. The building ends with a dome.

The interior is worked as a stone vault . A triglyph frieze runs along the walls . The metopes once bore reliefs of human skulls. However, these have since been removed. A marble monument on the east side was built in 1824.
