FreightCar America (until 2004 Johnstown America ) is an American freight car manufacturer based in Chicago . In the 2015 financial year, he delivered almost 9,000 cars. FreightCar America specializes in stainless steel or aluminum coal wagons (brands BethGon and AutoFlood ).
The company has manufacturing facilities in Roanoke, Virginia, Danville, Illinois, and Shoals, Alabama. FreightCar America has been leasing part of the Navistar plant in Shoals since 2013 , which is intended to alleviate the dependency on the coal wagons, which are in high cyclical demand , through a diversified product range .
The subsidiary FreightCar Rail Services operates repair workshops in Grand Island and Hastings (Nebraska) .
history
FreightCar America was founded in 1991 when Bethlehem Steel sold its freight car division called Johnstown America to Thomas M. Begel, the former CEO of Pullman-Standard . The eponymous plant in Johnstown (Pennsylvania) was closed in 2007.
