Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising is a first-person shooter in a jungle scenario from NovaLogic . The game is mainly designed as an online game in which up to 150 players (250 slots have also been successfully tested) face each other (comparable to the Battlefield series).

The game

There are different types of games. It goes z. B. in a type of game that one of 2 teams has to take all checkpoints. The game can be played in training mode, in LAN mode and in NovaWorld.

The scenario

Indonesia in 2010 - rebels demand independence. Then the UN sends an army - the Joint Ops - to keep order. The Joint Operations Special Forces consists of special forces from the USA, France, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Australia and the Indonesian Army. Due to the temporal proximity, current weapons are used, whereby the rebels naturally fall back on older models (which are of course still equivalent).

The vehicles available are helicopters, off-road vehicles, armored transporters, rubber dinghies and gunboats.

The Escalation add-on has expanded the range of vehicles to include a motorcycle, a combat helicopter and a heavy tank. Some new weapons have also been added, especially those that can be used to defend against the tanks. There were also different types of ammunition for handguns. Protective vests and parachutes have also been added as major innovations, so jumping from a great height is now also possible.

Classes

Each player takes on a certain class that specializes in certain tasks. All classes can carry a primary and secondary weapon as well as grenades and a special weapon at the same time. Protective vests and parachutes are also considered special weapons .

However, as the weight increases, the players slow down. At certain points, armament or class can be changed.

  • Rifleman: Standard soldier - can do a little bit of everything. The only class that can mount grenade launchers under his rifle.
  • Engineer: Important unit that can be used to defend against all types of vehicles and against helicopters. He can also use a mortar to fire on certain targets.
  • Medic: Is responsible for the survival of teammates, he can heal and revive them, but is almost defenseless against armored vehicles.
  • Gunner: The only one who can carry machine guns, which are of course very heavy.
  • Sniper: Can kill enemies at long range with his sniper rifle, but is usually inferior in close combat.

In the International Conflict Mod (IC) there are recently also Thermit grenades, with which you can even destroy tanks as a Rifleman. The other weapons and vehicles have become correspondingly diverse and interesting from version 4.1.0.

Game modes

Single player

The single player mode (training) is intended primarily to get to know the weapons and vehicles. Each one introduces a short mission.

Another way to play offline is to open a LAN game in co-op mode (Serve & Play). It's like a single player game.

Multiplayer

Joint Operations - Typhoon Rising is a classic multiplayer shooter that is played primarily in the LAN or over the Internet. The rebels always play against the Joint Ops on the cards.

  • AAS (Advance and Secure) : In addition to the starting bases, certain points are marked on the card that must be taken and kept. The winner is the team that either takes all the points or holds the majority of the points at the end of a time limit.
In contrast to Battlefield 1942 , not all points are fought at the same time, so the players have to concentrate on a few. This means that a tactical approach is important, individual actions are hardly successful.
  • TKOTH (Team King of the Hill) : Both teams try to reach and hold a zone. The winner is the team that was initially present in the zone for a certain period of time. Tactical advantages can arise from taking spawn points.
The game comes to its climax around and in the zone to be stopped, here too a tactical approach is an advantage.
  • A&D (Attack & Defend) : One team has the task of destroying certain objects on the map, the other team is supposed to prevent them from doing so. If the attackers succeed in destroying the targets within a time limit, they win - if not, the defenders win.
  • TDM (Team Deathmatch) : The aim is to kill as many players on the opposing team as possible when a time limit has expired.
Simple mode with no great depth.
  • CTF (Capture The Flag) : The teams each have one or more flags that they have to defend. If you can bring a flag from the opposing team to your own base, you score for your team. The team with the most points won.
  • FB (Flagball) : A mode similar to the CTF mode, but there is only one flag on the map, which must then be captured by both teams at the same time.
  • COOP (Cooperative) : This mode is a kind of A&D. Human players play together in a team against computer-controlled bots .

The anti cheat software PunkBuster was used in multiplayer mode .
