Jonas Vileišis
Jonas Vileišis (born January 3, 1872 in Mediniai , Rajongemeinde Pasvalys , † June 1, 1942 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian politician and lawyer .
Life
In 1892 Vileišis graduated from the Šiauliai grammar school . From 1892 to 1894 he studied at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the University of Peterburg . In 1898 Vileišis graduated from the law school . From 1896 he was a member of the Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija . From 1900 he was a lawyer.
1917–1920 Vileišis was a member of the Lietuvos Taryba , from 1918 Minister of the Interior of Lithuania in the cabinet of Mykolas Sleževičius and then Minister of Finance of Lithuania . In 1919 he was the representative of Lithuania in the USA and from 1922 a member of Seimas , in 1923 a candidate with Aleksandras Stulginskis for President of the Republic of Lithuania . From 1921 to 1931 he was mayor of the municipality of Kaunas . From 1933 to 1940 he taught at the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas .
In 1940 he became an honorary member of the Lietuvos teisininkų draugija association .
His grave is in Vilnius , Rasos Cemetery .
