Jonathan Hale

Jonathan Hale ( actually Jonathan Hatley ; born March 23, 1891 in Ontario , Canada , † February 28, 1966 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles , USA) was a Canadian film actor.

Life

Jonathan Hale was born in Canada and worked in the diplomatic service until he started his film career . In 1934 he had his first roles in film, but initially mostly only minor roles or unspecified short appearances. Jonathan Hale was ultimately able to establish himself primarily as a performer of authority figures such as high-ranking businessmen, officers or politicians. Perhaps his best-known role was in the 1940s Blondie film franchise as Dagwood Bumstead's boss, JC Dithers . One of his most famous films is the Hitchcock thriller The Stranger on a Train from 1951, where he played the father of a psychopathic killer. In total, he starred in over 200 feature films, and from the 1950s onwards he worked on various television films and series .

Hale was a widower and had two children. On February 28, 1966, the 74-year-old actor committed suicide with a gun suicide .
