The Jonker JS3 Rapture is a single-seat glider in the FAI 15 m class that can also be flown with a 18 meter wingspan. The prototype with the registration number ZS-TES first flew on December 12, 2016.
History and construction
In contrast to other aircraft, the aerodynamic design of the JS3 was based on flow simulations instead of wind tunnel tests . The fuselage is a new development, the wing with flaps has been shortened from the JS1 , the tail wheel is retractable. In addition, great importance was attached to crash safety and ergonomics. A turbine drive or the FES system is offered as a homecoming aid.
At the Gliding World Championship 2017 in Benellae, Uys and Attie Jonker, each in a JS3, achieved eleventh and twelfth place in the 15m class.
The first flight took place on May 24, 2017 in the 18 m configuration and with the Jet Sustainer system installed.
