The Madagascar nightjar ( Caprimulgus madagascariensis ) is a bird in the nightjar family (Caprimulgidae).
features
The Madagascar nightjar is a bird measuring 21–23 cm, the male weighs 37–43 g and the female 45–51 g. The top and bottom are gray-brown, when flying clear white wing band, no different color of the collar and no points on the vertex.
behavior
The bird feeds mainly on insects such as grasshoppers, butterflies, cicadas and beetles by flying around tree tops, in open terrain or over bodies of water. The breeding season lasts from August to October in the southwest, from October to November in the north of Madagascar with nests on ferns or low bushes with no actual nest.
distribution and habitat
The Madagascar nightjar can be found in Madagascar and the Seychelles in open or lightly forested terrain, mostly below 1500 m.
The following subspecies are distinguished:
- C. m. aldabrensis Ridgway , 1894, on Aldabra
- C. m. madagascariensis Sganzin , 1840, in Madagascar and Nosy Boraha

The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
