Joost van Leijen (born July 20, 1984 in Nijmegen ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2002, Joost van Leijen took sixth place in the junior road at the road world championships . In the same year he won the Omloop Het Volk junior race . In 2004 he signed a contract with the Van Vliet team , for which he started until 2009.

In 2006 van Leijen won the Dutch race Ronde van Limburg and was successful on a section of the Ronde van Antwerp . In the 2007 season he won a stage of the Tour of Slovakia and also won the overall standings. In 2008 he won a stage of the Tour de Hokkaidō and in 2010 the Sparkassen Münsterland GIRO . In 2011 he was successful on a stage of the Tour de Wallonie . In 2012 he started his only Grand Tour : he took part in the Vuelta a España , but could not finish it.

At the end of the 2013 season, Joost van Leijen ended his career as an elite cyclist after he did not get a new contract with his Lotto Belisol team and had to contend with injuries.
