Jordan River Utah Temple (English: Jordan River Utah Temple , formerly Jordan River Temple ) is a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Jordan , south of Salt Lake City . It was inaugurated in 1981.

The Jordan River Temple was built according to plans by Emil B. Fetzer , the LDS house architect at the time. The construction was announced on February 3, 1978, the consecration of the building site and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 9, 1979 under Spencer W. Kimball . The temple was completed in 1981, and the open house was held from September 29th to October 31st. The temple was dedicated by Marion G. Romney from November 16 to 20 .

The Jordan River Temple has an area of ​​approximately 13,800 square meters. This includes six regulation rooms and seventeen sealing rooms. It is one of the LDS temples with the highest capacity. Made of fiberglass, the tower is 66.75 meters high and has a statue of Moroni with a trumpet and the gold plates on which Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon .
