Jordils is a stop on the m2 line of the Métro Lausanne in the Lausanne district of Sous-Gare / Ouchy . It was put into operation in 1877 as part of the Lausanne-Ouchy cable car and, along with Ouchy , Gare CFF and Flon, is one of the four underground stations that were already stops on the cog railway .

history

Initially, the rail-based means of transport between Ouchy , the train station and the industrial district of Flon , which went into operation in 1877 , was a funicular. In 1955 it was converted into a rack railway, after which the Jordils stop was also used as one of the two intermediate stations, the other being Montriond . Jordils was still a single-track stop during the times of the rack railway, as the train crossings always took place in Montriond. In 2006 the cog railway was shut down so that the conversion to an underground railway, which was approved by the electorate in 2002, could be completed smoothly. At the same time as the renovation, an extension beyond the previous Flon terminus to Croisettes in the suburb of Epalinges was built. On October 27, 2008 the opening of the metro was celebrated along its entire length.

Architecture and location

The rack railway, which previously ran in an incision, was largely lowered and expanded to double-lane throughout, giving Jordils a second track. Like the others in Lausanne, the stop itself has platform screen doors and comprises two tracks that are used in one direction. The station is at the intersection of Avenue des Jordils , Rue des Fontenailles and Avenue d'Ouchy .

traffic

Jordils is served by the m2 line of Métro Lausanne, the only line of the local rail transport system in the Vaudois capital that is actually considered an underground line. During rush hour, Jordils is served every six minutes in each direction, otherwise every ten minutes. You can change to the bus stop of the same name on line 2. The neighboring stations are Ouchy and Délices .
