The Ouchy station is the southern terminus of the m2 line of the Lausanne Métro and is located in the Ouchy district on the shores of Lake Geneva. Between 1877 and 2006, Ouchy was the terminus of the Lausanne – Ouchy rack railway .

history

Valley station of a funicular or a rack railway

Initially, the traffic between the industrial district of Flon or the Lausanne train station of the SBB and the port in Ouchy was handled by horse-drawn vehicles, which, however, no longer met the requirements. Due to the great differences in altitude, means of transport such as trams were out of the question, and the decision was finally made to build a funicular. In 1874, the Chemin de fer Lausanne-Ouchy was founded for this purpose . In 1955, the parallel funiculars Flon – Ouchy and Flon – Gare CFF were converted into rack railways. This was the first time the term metro came up. In the meantime, traffic between Ouchy and the city center of Lausanne has developed in the direction of tourism, for example the CGN lives almost exclusively from this. Other tourist facilities such as the Olympic Museum are also located in the catchment area of the Ouchy valley station.

Terminus of a subway line

On September 24, 2002, the Vaudois electorate decided that the LO would be converted into an underground train for 736 million francs and extended beyond Flon via the University Hospital Lausanne (CHUV) to Epalinges-Croisettes . In January 2006 the rack railway was finally shut down.

On October 27, 2008, the scheduled operation started on the m2. Since then, the double-track Ouchy station has had platform screen doors as protective devices.

traffic

Ouchy is served by a line from Métro Lausanne , the m2, which is the only underground line in the network. The station is a terminus, but has two tracks, with the trains departing alternately. The subway operates from 5:22 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., during rush hour it runs every 6 minutes, otherwise every 10 minutes. The next station is Jordils .
