history

Flon station: platforms of the m1 light rail line

Flon had been the starting point for the Lausanne – Ouchy (LO) cogwheel railway, which was closed for the Metro in 2006 and connected Flon with the SBB train station and the Ouchy district on Lake Geneva since 1877 . Between Flon and Gare CFF , the LO operated parallel to the Ouchy track, a second track on which a shuttle service took place.

In 1991, what was then the Sud-Ouest Lausannois tram to Renens was opened, which connects Lausanne with the university district of EPFL and UNIL . The light rail line is now operated as line m1 of the Métro Lausanne.

In 2000, the LEB was extended underground from Place Chauderon to Flon - this project was already in place at the time of the LEB planning, but for more than a hundred years a temporary solution was enough.

In 2008 the m2 line of Métro Lausanne was opened. It is the only subway in Switzerland and an extension of the LO to Epalinges .
