Jorge Arbeleche

Jorge Arbeleche (born October 23, 1943 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan writer, essayist and lecturer.

Life

In 1969 Arbeleche successfully completed a literary education at the Instituto de Profesores Artigas (IPA). From 1985 he worked there as a lecturer in Spanish literature and since 1988 as a teaching inspector ( inspector docente ) for literature at secondary level. His debut work as a poet appeared in 1968 with the title Sangre a la luz . In the following years he published numerous books, some of which were translated into English, Portuguese, Russian, French and Italian. His essayistic work, which extends to Juana de Ibarbourou , Gabriel García Márquez and Sara de Ibáñez , for example , is extensive.

He has received various prizes and awards for his literary work. His works also helped him to make entries in various literary lexicons and anthologies such as the Diccionario de Literatura Española e Hispanoamericana in 1993 , the Nuevo Diccionario de la Cultura Uruguaya , in 1989 in the Antología de la Poesía Uruguaya published in Havana and in 1987 in the Historia de la Literatura Hispanoamericana .

Since 1996 he has been a member of the Academia Nacional de Letras del Uruguay. The Spanish Royal Academy He joined in 2001 as a corresponding member as to how well the Real Academia Galega .

Arbeleche, who is assigned to the “Generación del 60”, has participated in literary congresses, seminars and festivals in North and South America, Europe and India.

Arbeleche also acted as an advisor to the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture.
