Jorge Fernández Díaz

Jorge Fernández Díaz (born April 6, 1950 in Valladolid ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular .

life and career

Fernández Díaz studied industrial engineering in Barcelona .

Between 1984 and 1989 he was a member of the Parliament of Catalonia and at times a member of the Spanish Senate . Since 1989 he has been a member of the Congreso de los Diputados as a member of the Barcelona constituency . He was State Secretary for Territorial Administration ( Administraciones Territoriales , 1996–1999), State Secretary in the Ministry of Education (1999–2000) and State Secretary for Parliamentary Relations ( Relaciones con las Cortes , 2000–2004).

From December 2011 to October 2016 he was Spanish Interior Minister in the Rajoy cabinet .

On August 29, 2012, the National Court of Justice announced that it had started an investigation into Fernández Díaz for treason. He is said to have disclosed details of the kidnapping of the entrepreneur Publio Cordón at a press conference in July. The court asked the television companies to make copies of the recordings and asked the police to provide information about the investigating officers.

Fernández Díaz is married and has two children.
