Jorge Larrañaga

Jorge Washington Larrañaga Fraga (born August 8, 1956 in Paysandú ) is a Uruguayan lawyer and politician .

Career

Larrañaga grew up in Paysandú and attended school there. He studied law at the Universidad de la República and specializes in civil and labor law. He practiced as a lawyer until 1990. From 1990 to 1999 Director of the Department of Paysandú and from 2000 to 2004 Senator. In 2004 he was the presidential candidate of the Partido Nacional , received 34% of the vote and was second behind Tabaré Vázquez . He has been Minister of the Interior in the Lacalle Pou cabinet since 2020 .

Larrañaga is the son of the politician Jorge Larrañaga Ilarraz.

Larrañaga was married to Ana María Vidal Elhordoy, with her he has three sons (Jorge Washington, Aparicio and Juan Francisco). Divorced in 2005; since then he has lived with María Liliana Echenique and they have a son, Faustino.
