Jorge Schmidt (born May 16, 1985 in Göttingen ) is a German basketball player. He played for Braunschweig in the basketball league and for several clubs in the 2nd division, including his home club BG 74 Göttingen .

career

Schmidt's father, Hans-Werner, was a trainer for years at BG 74 Göttingen - the club where Schmidt the Younger also played in the youth. From 2002 he belonged to the squad of the men's team of the "Veilchen" in the 2nd Bundesliga. In 2005 he left his home country and went to the Bundesliga club New York Phantoms Braunschweig . Until 2008 he was used in 23 games of the basketball Bundesliga and also strengthened Braunschweig's reserve team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .

After leaving Braunschweig, he won the championship title in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA with the Mitteldeutscher BC in the 2008/09 season and then moved to the Würzburg Baskets in the ProB. In 2010 he returned to ProA and moved to BV Chemnitz 99 , where he was to be under contract until 2013.

After his time in Chemnitz, Schmidt signed with the university giants Leipzig in 2013 . Until 2015 he was a top performer for the Leipzig team and temporarily team captain. In August 2015, Schmidt, who was studying business administration alongside his sports career, retired from professional basketball and returned to his hometown of Göttingen. There he played for ASC 1846 Göttingen in the 2nd and 1st regional leagues.

He has had the Trainer B license since 2017 and, together with his father, looks after a youth team at his home club BG 74 Göttingen.

National team

Schmidt was a German national player in the U16, U18 and U20 age groups, and he was also part of the German A2 squad. In 2005 he played with the U20 national team at the EM in Moscow.
