Bernard Evans Ward
Bernard Evans Ward (* 1857 in London , † August 3, 1933 in Akron , Ohio ) was a painter, art teacher and co-operator of a London art school, the St John's Wood Art School .
Bernard E. Ward was a well-known painter of the Victorian era . For his work he received the gold medal of the Royal Society of British Artists . In 1878, together with the Peruvian painter Elíseo Abelardo Alvarez Calderón (1847–1911) , he founded the St John's Wood Art School in London on "7, Elm Tree Road". After a lawsuit that cost him his fortune, he emigrated to the United States , where he lived near Cleveland , Ohio in 1913 . His daughter was a reporter and worked for a London newspaper, possibly The Illustrated London News . BE Ward quickly made a name for himself as a portraitist in his new hometown . He and his family lived in Florida for some time in the early 1920s and died at his granddaughter's house on his return to Akron.
