Jorhat is a city in the Indian state of Assam .

The city is the capital of the Jorhat district . Jorhat has municipal board status . The city is divided into 31 wards (constituencies).

Demographics

The population of the agglomeration of Jorhat is 153,889 according to the 2011 census. Jorhat has a gender ratio of 934 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 90.0% in 2011. 9.7% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Infrastructure

Daily flights to Kolkata depart from the small Jorhat Airport . The city has a train station which is part of the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways .
