José Alfonso Pizarro , Margrave (Spanish: Marqués) of Villar (* 1689 in Spain ; † 1762 (according to other information: 1753) in Madrid , Spain) was a Spanish officer and colonial administrator who served as viceroy of New Granada.

Pizarro embarked on a military career in the Spanish Navy. He was a knight of the Order of St. John and chamberlain to the Spanish king.

As flotilla commander, he fought against the English Navy in the War of Jenkins' Ear in 1738 and 1739 . In 1740 he became the commander-in-chief of the Spanish Pacific Fleet with the rank of lieutenant general.

1749 made him Prime Minister Zenón de Somodevilla y Bengoechea in the name of King Ferdinand VI. as the Viceroy of New Granada as successor to Sebastián de Eslava y Lazaga . Pizarro reached the colony and took over the office in Cartagena on November 6th, 1749. With him several missionaries came to the country who were supposed to promote the Christianization of the indigenous rural population.

In May 1750 he moved into the palace in Bogotá . At the end of 1750 he fell seriously ill and soon asked to be released from his post in Spain.

By 1751 he also took over the general captains of Panamá and Veraguas under the sovereignty of the viceroyalty. He monopolized the sale of spirits, which led to popular displeasure, but improved state revenues.

For the numerous landless Indians who wandered about, he proposed to settle in specially built Indian villages, some of which were built during his term of office, but did not last long. Some fortifications on the coast were also expanded under his rule.

The Jesuit University in Panama City was also founded during Pizarro's tenure .

In 1753, Madrid complied with his dismissal requests, and Pizarro was able to hand over the office to José Solís Folch de Cardona . He immediately went back to Europe, where, according to some sources, he died that same year. According to other sources, he lived in Spain for 9 years until 1762.
