José Dolores Cerón

José Dolores Cerón (aka Pedro Pablo Cerón , born June 29, 1897 in Santo Domingo ; † March 22, 1969 ibid) was a Dominican composer.

As a child, Cerón had piano lessons from Arturo Senior and lessons in composition and harmony with José de Jesús Ravelo and Esteban Peña Morell . He also learned to play the cello and double bass with Cándido Castellanos . In 1920 he founded his own orchestra, for which he worked as a conductor, composer and cellist and with whom he performed at the Club de Artesanos . In 1925 he became vice director and in 1930 director of the Banda de Música of the Dominican army. He was also the artistic director of La Voz Dominicana and conductor of its Orquesta de Conciertos .

In addition to orchestral works, including two symphonies and symphonic poems ( A Caída de la Tarde , Las Vírgenes Galindo ), Cerón composed the Himno del Ejercito Nacional and a number of popular romances. Prodigio became known in the interpretation of the baritone Guarionex Aquino and the tenor Rafael Sánchez Cestero , Como tu Besabas was recorded by Eduardo Brito and his wife Rosa Elena Bobadilla .
