José Ignacio worth

José Ignacio Wert Ortega (born February 18, 1950 in Madrid ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular and sociologist .

life and career

Wert studied law at the Complutense University of Madrid until 1972 . He then worked at the Radiotelevisión Española broadcasting company and from 1978 as a sociologist in the civil service, including at the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas .

From 1977 he was a member of the Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD) party. After the party disbanded in 1982, he joined the Partido Demócrata Popular (PDP). In 1983 he was elected to the Madrid City Council in the local elections. In the 1986 elections, he won a seat in the Congreso de los Diputados for the constituency of La Coruña , but resigned his mandate in 1987. He then worked for various polling institutes . Between February 2003 and August 2005 he worked for the Spanish bank BBVA .

From December 22, 2011 to June 25, 2015 he was Minister of Education, Culture and Sport in the Rajoy cabinet .
