Wilfried Warneck

Wilfried Karl Hans Warneck (born December 28, 1929 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † March 10, 2015 in Diemelstadt-Wethen ) was a German Protestant theologian, co-founder of the ecumenical community Laurentiuskonvent and Christian peace activist.

Life

Wilfried Warneck was the son of the middle school teacher Leopold Warneck and the middle school teacher Katharina Warneck, geb. Niemann. Since 1974 he was with Ruth Warneck, geb. Bald, married.

His youth was shaped by the experiences of the Second World War and the escape from Königsberg with various stations. He completed his schooling in 1949 with the Abitur at the Bodelschwingh Advanced School in Bielefeld -Bethel. From 1949 to 1953 he studied Protestant theology in Bethel and Heidelberg . After his ordination in 1954, he was vicar in Heidelberg-Kirchheim . In 1955 he resigned from the regional church service in order to gain experience with communities at home and abroad. In 1959 he became a founding member of the ecumenical community "Laurentiuskonvent".

From 1955 to 1958 he worked as an intern at the Communauté de Taizé , France, mainly as an editor of a theological magazine and as a member of a labor fraternity in a migrant district of Marseille . From 1958 to 1961 he worked as a vacancy representative in parishes in Heidelberg and Bremen and as a religion teacher and educator in a home for apprentices in Falkenburg near Bremen.

From 1962 to 1966 he was managing director of the community work project "Förderergemeinschaft Kinder in Not eV". From 1964 to 1967 he was the managing director of the development and peace service “ World Peace Service ”, then until 1977 as its chairman. From 1966 to 1971 he was managing director of " Eirene (Peace Service) , International Christian Peace Service". In both functions, he made numerous trips and project stays, mainly in Africa. From 1971 to 1975 he worked at the research facility of the Evangelical Study Community (FEST), Heidelberg, as part of a research project "Conscientious objection and development service - the engagement of conscientious objectors for the Third World as an element of peace education".

From 1975 to 1990 he led the work of Church and Peace , the European ecumenical network of communities, communities, congregations, peace groups, peace services and training centers, founded by the historic peace churches and the International Union of Reconciliation, as managing director . In addition, he carried out various peace policy functions on a voluntary basis, including a. as a representative for peace work in the Braunfels church district, as a member of regional church peace committees of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland and as a board member of the " Action Group Service for Peace eV" (AGDF). He played a major role in the development of the “Oekumenischen Dienst Schalomdiakonat (OeD)” (today: violence free acting), which was founded in 1992 and which teaches skills in non-violent / civil conflict management in courses and specialist seminars .

From 1986 Wilfried Warneck took an active part in ecumenical peace conferences:

  • 1986: Co-organizer of the 1st European Peace Church Assembly in Braunfels, Hesse
  • 1988: Co-organizer of “Assisi '88 - Ecumenical Dialogue Meeting for Justice, Peace and Reverence for Creation” in Assisi / Italy
  • 1989: Participant in the first European Ecumenical Assembly "Peace in Justice" in Basel / Switzerland
  • 1990: Delegate to the “Ecumenical World Convocation for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation of the conciliar process ” in Seoul / South Korea

He last lived with his wife Ruth in a group of the Laurentiuskonvent in Diemelstadt-Wethen.
