Action group service for peace

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Action Group Service for Peace (AGDF) is an association of 34 institutions that carry out peace work with different focuses and work programs at home and abroad. The guiding principle of the AGDF is the biblical concept of peace as it is taken up in the “ Conciliar Process for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation ”. However, there are also some member organizations whose work for peace is derived from the tradition of human rights . The AGDF sees these two lines as mutually corrective and fertilizing. The AGDF works closely with the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), but emphasizes its structural independence.

history

The AGDF was founded in 1968 at the instigation of (Johann-) Wolfgang von Eichborn , who was chairman until 1977. In June 1981 the AGDF called for a peace demonstration on October 10, 1981 in Bonn's Hofgarten on the sidelines of the 19th German Protestant Church Congress in Hamburg with the Action Reconciliation Service .

In September 1985, the AGDF, together with Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste, published the five Düsseldorf peace theses against military deterrence potentials, for a more equitable distribution of wealth in the world, for refusal of military service, for nonviolence at the 21st German Evangelical Church Congress in Düsseldorf .

In the meantime the AGDF has had the logo of the GDR peace movement " Swords to Plowshares " protected as a registered trademark and is taking legal action against unlicensed use with legal warnings. Previously (2005) the entry was rejected by the DPMA because it was not distinctive.

structure

The AGDF has three thematic departments:

  • Department I: Local and Regional Peace Work.
  • (Department II :) Qualification network for civil, non-violent conflict management
  • Department III: Services (several months of volunteer work abroad, deployment of peace workers to civil conflict management)

The AGDF is itself a member of various national and international organizations, including:
