history

In 1924 Christians from the Netherlands , Belgium , England and Switzerland founded the “Order of the Crusaders” in Liévin , Belgium, which was later renamed “Christian Peace Service”. The association was founded as a Christian community that campaigns for reconciliation in Europe. The starting point in 1923 was the joint efforts of a French occupation officer and the mayor of Datteln to improve German-French understanding during and after the French occupation of the Ruhr area . The Christian Peace Service (cfd) was banned in Germany soon after the National Socialists came to power . The same thing happened to the Mouvement Chretien pour la Paix (MCP), the first peacekeeping network, after the occupation of France. However, individuals tried to keep in touch with the active refugee helpers in Switzerland on a private basis .

After the war, the ideas of the cfd came back from Switzerland to Germany and France. The idea quickly spread across Europe after World War II. Shortly afterwards, cfd branches were also created in Italy, the Benelux countries, England and other European countries such as Malta and Portugal. Contacts were later made with peace activists in Algeria and Palestine. After the Warsaw Pact collapsed in 1991, there were also initiatives from Eastern European countries, e. B. from Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Hungary.

The national partner organizations merged to form an international umbrella organization. For a long time the association was called “Christian Movement for Peace” (CMP), but was renamed “Youth Action for Peace” (YAP international) in 1994 to express its openness to all religions.

In 2010 the YAP international network disbanded due to financial and personnel difficulties.

In addition to international work camps, Yap-cfd also offered longer-term volunteer services such as the European Volunteer Service (EVS), Weltwärts, international youth volunteer service and projects for self-paying people. The organization was a member of the “ Action Group Service for Peace ” (AGDF), an association of various organizations that are active in the areas of local and regional peace work, awareness-raising, education and voluntary services. The organization is also a member of the CCIVS, UNESCO's Coordinating Committee for international Voluntary Services . The organization was also a participant in the sponsors' conference, the union of German work camp organizations.

In 2013 yap-cfd stopped its independent work in Germany and integrated its fields of work into the work of the ICJA Freiwilligenausauch association worldwide from Berlin.
