José Luis Valenzuela

José Luis Valenzuela is an American theater and film director and professor at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television .

For more than 25 years, Valenzuela has directed plays that have received critical acclaim . His plays have been performed in major regional theaters such as the Los Angeles Theater Center , where he founded the Latino Theater Initiative in 1985 . His last directorial works are Premeditation , Solitude , la Victima , la Virgen de Guadelupe , Dios Inantzin . All of these works were produced by the Latino Theater Company .

International plays he has directed include Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen at the Norland Theater in Norway and Kiss the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig at the National Theater of Norway. In 2002 he directed Dementia by Evelina Fernandez for the Latino Theater Initiative. Dementia won the 2003 GLAAD Award for Best Theater Production in Los Angeles .
