José María Iglesias
José María Iglesias Inzaurraga (born January 5, 1823 in Mexico City , † November 17, 1891 ibid) was a Mexican lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party, who served briefly as President of Mexico from October 27 to December 6, 1876 .
Life
Iglesias was a lawyer and held important positions in Congress and the government of Mexico during the presidencies of Ignacio Comonfort and Benito Juárez . In 1873 he became President of the Supreme Court of Mexico. Iglesias declared the re-election of Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada in 1876 invalid. From October 27, 1876 to December 6, 1876 he was temporarily interim president of Mexico according to the constitution , but was overthrown by General Porfirio Díaz . Iglesias fled to Guanajuato and, after several military defeats against Díaz, left the country for New York on January 17, 1877 . He died in Mexico City on his return to Mexico in 1891.
