José Martínez Millán

José Martínez Millán (born before 1978) is a Spanish historian specializing in early modern history. He is Professor of Modern History (Historia Moderna) at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid .

Martínez Millán has stood out since 1978 with his research on the financing of the Spanish Inquisition , which is still one of his specialties. His focus is on the religious and spiritual life of Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries and on the dynasty of the Spanish Habsburgs with their court and their Europe-wide entanglements. Martínez Millán also heads the Institute on the European Court (Instituto Universitario La Corte en Europa ) at his university .

With his books on popular topics, he also reaches a public beyond the specialist audience. He is currently researching the royal court of Philip IV and the causes of the end of the Spanish Habsburg dynasty.
