José Miguel Mora Porras

José Miguel Mora Porras (born September 29, 1816 in San José ; † June 15, 1887 ibid) was President of Costa Rica from November 16 to 26, 1849 .

Life

His parents were Ana Benita Porras y Ulloa and Camilo Mora y Alvarado. His siblings were Ana María Mora Porras, the wife of José María Montealegre Fernández ; Guadalupe Mora Porras, the wife of General José María Cañas Escamilla .; Juan Rafael Mora Porras , General José Joaquín Mora Porras

In April 1840 he married Felipa Montes de Oca y Gamero. Twelve children were born in this marriage: Octavia, Esteban, María Agapita, José Abraham, Edelmira, Salomón, Micaela, Abraham, Miguel, Lucila, Ignacio and Juan Rafael Mora Montes de Oca.

He was a member of the Partido Liberal . At the constituent assembly from 1846 to 1847, José Miguel Mora Porras was a delegate from Guanacaste . In 1848 he was elected MP for San José.

Presidency

On November 16, 1849, parliament accepted the resignation of President José María Castro Madriz. The deputy for office in Costa Rica was the President of Parliament Nazario Toledo. However, this was not confirmed by parliament because he was not born in Costa Rica.

Frederick Chatfield came to San José and was officially received by José Miguel Mora Porras on November 24, 1849. On November 26, 1849, José Miguel Mora Porras passed the presidency on to his older brother Juan Rafael Mora Porras.

After his presidency, José Miguel Mora Porras was again an MP. From March 22nd to April 6th, 1850 he was again executive president because his brother was absent.

In 1855 he was elected MP for San José. He did not carry out this mandate until the end of the term to which he was elected. Since his brother was overthrown in 1859 because he had broken the constitution and a state of emergency was declared, he went into exile in El Salvador with the Mora Poras family for several years.
