José Ortiz (comic artist)
José Ortiz (born September 1, 1932 in Cartagena , † December 23, 2013 in Valencia ) was a Spanish cartoonist .
Life
José Ortiz first attracted attention at the age of 16 as the winner of a drawing competition for the youth magazine Chicos . In 1951 he came to Valencia, where he worked as a draftsman for adventure comics for the Maga publishing house . He later moved to Toray Verlag, where he drew the Viking series Sigur . In the 1960s he became internationally known and made war comics and the Strip UFO agent . Phantastic and horror comics for the US magazines Creepy and Vampirella followed .
In the 1980s the successful collaboration with the author Antonio Segura began , which resulted in the end-of-time thriller Hombre , the science fiction satire Burton & Cyb and the prison glossy Morgan . In the 1990s, some commissioned works for Italian publishers followed; so he worked for a few years on the western series Tex .
