Joséphine Guidy-Wandja
Joséphine Guidy-Wandja (* 1945 in Cameroon ) is an Ivorian mathematician and university professor. She was the first woman to do a PhD in mathematics from the University of Abidjan.
life and work
Guidy-Wandja spent the first fourteen years of her life in Cameroon before the family moved to France, where they attended the Lycée de Jeunes Filles in Châtellerault . After a year at this school, she received the Brevet d'études de Premier Cycle (BEPC) in 1960. She studied mathematics and physics at the Pierre and Marie Curie University and began teaching at the Jacques Amyot High School in Melun in 1969 . She then became an assistant professor at the University of Paris VII . In 1971 she became a lecturer at the University of Abidjan ( Ivory Coast ) and in 1980 it was at Jean-Pierre Aubin at the Université Nationale de Cote d'Ivoire with the dissertation Economie quadratique doctorate . In 1983 she was appointed President of the International Committee on Mathematics in Developing Countries (ICOMIDC). She has received numerous awards, including the Ordre de Mérite de l'Education Nationale (Ivory Coast) and the Officier des Palmes Académiques (France).
